Basic PC Skills

A computer is an electronic machine operating under the control of instruction stored in its own memory. That can accept data according to specified rules produce results and stored the results for future use.

Data entered into a computer is called input. The processed out. Thus, a computer processes input to create output. A processes computer also can hold data and information for future use in an area called storage. This cycle of the input process, output and storage are called the information processing cycle.

INPUT – Data entered into a computer.

OUTPUT– The process results

STORAGE– A computer also can hold data information for future use in an area.

Information Processing Cycle– Cycle of input, process output, and storage.

HARDWARE- The electric, electronic and mechanical types of equipment that makes up a computer. Hardware is any part of the computer. We can touch and feel like any peripheral equipment such as keyword, printers, monitor, mouse and speakers, hard disk, ram.

SOFTWARE– Software is the series of instruction that tells without software, the hardware is useless, hardware need the instructions provided by software. Operating System and Application are the two types of software.

Operating Systems (OS) are that piece of software which communicate with computer and converts all user commands back and forth. Operating systems have four parts. Popular operating systems are Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8, Mac, Linux etc.

Applications are the end user products which user run on a computer, that is, Games, Word processing, excel, word, are all applications.

HUMANWARE– Humanware is the people who operate the computer system without human ware software and hardware is useless.

First Generation- First generation computers with the UNIVAC-I in 1951 used vacuum tubes and their memories were a mage of these tubes of liquid mercury and magnetic drum.

Second Generation- Second generation systems in the late 1905’snreplaced tubes with a transistor and used magnetic cores for memories (IBM-1401), Honey well 800. The size was reduced and reliability was significantly improved.

Third Generation- Third generation computers beginnings in the mid-1960’s used the first integrated circuit (IBM-560), CDC 6400. And the first operating system.

Fourth Generation- The fourth generation which starts in the mid-1970’s brought us computer made entirely of chips.

Fifth Generation- Fifth generation computer is expected to continue very large scale integration (VLSI) with a sophisticated approach to computing, including artificial intelligence and true distributed processing.

Programming languages are designed for humans to write code for computers. Programming languages are C/C++, Visual Basic, Java using these a person writes a code and then compiles it and creates an executable file which is understood by the machine. All .exe files are executable files translated into a language understood by the computer.

Personal computers are those machines that sit on your desk at home or at the office, usually running Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8,  MacOS, Windows and other operating systems designed for PCs.

A notebook computer is also called a laptop. A notebook is a small, lightweight computer that we can easily transparent from one place to another. Most laptop computers run either on batteries or a standard power supply.

Notebook/Laptop computer have the same capabilities as full-size computers Although notebook computers are more expensive.
